Understanding MTD Star Center Holes

Table of Contents

If you own an MTD, Troy Bilt, White Outdoors, Cub Cadet, or even a newer Craftman lawnmower, there is a really good chance that your lawnmower blade(s) that came on it have an odd looking Star Center Hole. The push mower blade looks like it has a “bow tie”, and the riding mower blades have a 6 point star center hole. Now, after time, you are going to need to replace those blades, and you are left with an option. Purchase OEM blades, or purchase aftermarket replacement blades.

You decide you want aftermarket blades, and head off to see us. But, you walk through the blade room, or browse our online inventory, and are left wondering where the Star Center Hole blades are!

Well, unless you are buying an OEM blade, the answer is: You wont find it. MTD owns the patent on the Star Center Holes that they use in their blades. Aftermarket companies are left working around the patent to make sure that they can make blades for your product

Here is a great photo representation of how the The aftermarket companies have solved the problem.
