On Saturday December 13th, the Richland Mall welcomed the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) fund raising event. WWP began back in 2002 when a few veterans took inspired actions to help our injured service members returning from Afghanistan and Iraq. Through the generous donations of citizens, organizations, and corporations, WWP is now the leading non profit organization providing tangible comfort and support to our severely injured service men and women returning from war. Directly from the battlegrounds to the bedside and beyond, WWP offers programs to ease the burdens of our heroes and their families, aid in the recovery process, and smooth the transition back to civilian life. We want to help our wounded service members rebuild confidence and reclaim an active life. We are holding this event to show them our love and how much life still has to offer.
The Following is a Letter From Art Hoffman to Glen's Surplus regarding how the day went.
To my Dear Ones at Glens
The hard work of all the volunteers and Warrior Challenge competitors resulted in $2300 being raised for the WWP. That along with the $2300 raised before the event would bring the total to about $4600. Roy says our goal was $5000, so we will continue to work until we close out the project Jan. 1.
The Navy Won the Top Warrior Challenge award. I have the privilege to help mentor and train them, they set the fitness bar. April was outsanding (April works in our military department and was our representative at the event), she was my right hand, making sure all went well, the entire day. You had to see the guy break the bricks to believe it. The Air Guard, Army Guard, Marines, and Fit 1 stepped up, it was a day to remember, everyone working together for our wounded heroes.
The bottom line, the event would not have been successful without Glens (the Shelby Mall).
From my heart, I thank you so very much.
Art.
We are very happy and proud to have been part of such a wonderful event that helps those who have paid a steep price for their patriotism. We have wonderful pictures from the event, and a video of the brick breaking. You can view these items here
