3rd Annual Shelby Tractor Pull Shootout!

That’s right folks! It is that time of the year again. On July 7th, 2012 Glen’s Surplus, and Tri-County Pullers will be sponsoring the 3rd Annual Shelby Tractor Pull Shoot Out. And this year, the pull will be held on a DIRT TRACK.
The pull will be held just on the other side of the Smiley Ave bridge from Glen’s Surplus. We hate to have to move the pull yet again, but it’s not that far from the store, or last year’s location. You can still park here at Glen’s, and walk less than a couple of minutes to the Track.

Pre-registration is now available online, and will be available inside Glen’s Surplus soon enough (Probably this week) The prices are (tentatively) the same as they were last year as well.

On the day of the event, Registration will open up at noon, and we will get to pulling at 3pm. While the big tractors are burning down the dirt track, we will have a Kiddie Pull going on as well! The Kiddie Pull is free of charge, and is open to any child from age 2, up to 150 pounds. Any child who participates in the Kiddie Pull will receive a free Face Painting

Speaking of Face Painting, we will have Face Painting, and Food, and Ice Cream, and more going on right there! We also have confirmed that the local FFA (Future Farmers of America) group will be doing something this year. As soon as we know what they are doing, I will let you know! We will be having a live vocal group performing the National Anthem before we get started as well. I promise, as I know more, you will know more.

We will have prizes for the weight classes, we will have a drawing for our facebook friends! That’s right, if you like free money to spend at Glen’s, Go like us on Facebook! We will be drawing for a $100 Glen’s Surplus Gift Certificate from our Friends list on Facebook.

And before the pull gets going, we will be having a big sale in the store! We will be having give aways in every department! This is going to be a huge day here at Glen’s Surplus, for sure.

Crawford County Farm Machinery – Ice Cream! They were here last year, and they are coming back again.
4-H Freedom Wranglers – They will be selling hot dogs, chips, etc…
St Mary’s - Will be donating Water and Peanuts.
Blevin’s BBQ Pit – It’s a Hog Roast! They will have all types of Smoked, and BBQ sandwiches and goodies!
Summit Wood Industries - Creators of the Alternative Heating, and winter fuel, BIO BLOCKS! They will be running a demo of their product throughout the day.
Richland County Young Marines – I’m unsure what they are doing, but they have agreed to be a part of the festivities this year.
Amazing Face – This fantastic company will be providing face painting, they do great work.
The Bounce House – We will be having a Bounce House this year for the kids! $2.00 will by an all day entrance pass.

We here at Glen’s just wanted to say thank you to Mr. Zurcher for coming and spending some time with us, and for the great article and blog that he did about us. And I hope that Fried Bologna Sandwich from Paul’s hit the spot!

We just finished up the Bicycle Days weekend here in Shelby!  Glen’s was so happy to be a part of the Parade where we took home 2nd place entry for our Float! Check Below the jump for more.

This year we entered one of our Large Military Semi’s, pulling a fantastically awesome Ammo Trailer, followed by an M35 “Duece and a Half”.

We had family and friends alike come out and help us with the parade, and make it a special experience. Thank you to all who helped!

When the parade was over, it was time for the Kiddy Tractor Pull, in partnership with all of these fine people!

We had a great number of kids show up this year, and did a great job pulling.

But, after the kids pulled themselves into exhaustion, it was time for the big boys, and their toys to take over Mohican St! The Tractor pull was a fantastic success this year, even better than last years event! Here are a few of the tractors we saw:

We had vendors this year as well! We were very fortunate to have Blevin’s Hog Roast, The Richland Raiders 4-H club, and even Homemade Ice Cream!

Also as part of the Tractor pull, we were able to raise $75 each for the Shelby Help Line, and the Domestic Violence Shelter for Richland County, and we even gave away a 19″ flat screen DVD /tv combo to Wesley Morgan!

We had a great crowd of people, show up for the entire day, and we were lucky it was such a beautiful day. There weren’t too many clouds over head, and it allowed for a great day of pulling, which turned into a great night of pulling! The Tractor Pull didn’t end until 10:45! We have video coming soon of the Shootout under the lights of the Fireworks! Thank you to all who made it such a fantastic Day. I will leave you with more pictures of the Festival. As is customary for Glen’s Surplus, we will be closed from Christmas Day, through New Years Day. That means that when we close on Christmas Eve, we will see you again in the New Year (January 2nd).

We will have our Online Store closed down for this time, and we will not be here to answer your questions. Feel free to email us, but please understand that we will not be able to respond until January 2nd by phone, and Chad (our internet guy) wont be back in the office until Monday January 3rd.

1.) Why change from the old news format to this?
Glen’s Surplus is doing everything we can to be more up to date. Part of this, means that we can now use this blogging software for our news. It gives us the same functionality of our old news section, it is dynamic (which means we don’t have to create a new page every time), and we can post remotely, from anywhere. That is the big part.

Another part, is that we can include you, the patron of Glen’s Surplus in the news. Have something you want to say about our news? You can comment.

2.)  Will the new content keep my information safe?

Yes. I (Chad, the site admin) spent a good amount of time looking over the options that we had in taking our news to a more dynamic style. This software is far more secure than any of the other options.

3.) Will I receive anything for being a part of the discussion?

You might receive an e-mail from us. If you don’t want to receive those emails, you can shoot us off a reply that you don’t want to receive emails, and that is that. We will remove you from our lists, and you can still be a part of the discussion.

4.) What is the difference between this and the forums?

The forums are for you. We provide them, and hope that people will use them for discussions on plenty of topics. Our plan in the very near future is to make the forums a larger part of the website, and integrate them more. But the news, This is our way of bringing you the information we want you to know.

5.) Who will be updating this?
I have a feeling that it will be Chad and Jennifer doing the bulk of the news, but I wouldn’t be surprised to find that some of our other employees find there way into this, and keep you updated on things as well.

So, now that we have that out of the way, lets talk some shop.

If you haven’t been by the store in a while, man are you missing out! In the past year, we have opened an entirely new room for blades, started an auto dealership, and are breaking ground on the new site for that right next door.

Remember when you would come in looking for blades, and the aisles were full of people, and it just seemed like the space was far too small? Well, Fear not! To the right (if you are looking at it) of the service counter, is a fantastically large room that now houses all of our Decks, Blades, and various other mower pieces. This room is massive. It is EASILY double the space of what we had before.

That probably isn’t the best way to describe it. Over the summer Glen created JBJ Trucks and Stuff. This is where you will be purchasing items that require a Title. This include Military Trucks, Trailers, Semis, Dump Trucks, Tow Trucks and whatever else we find. These aren’t normal Civilian cars. These are tried and true Military Surplus.

Over the year, we have been adding new products, new features, and refining the design of the site. We have made the front page far more user friendly, we have improved the search capabilities of the site, and are working to constantly make it better.
